About us Elizabeth’s very first dog was a cocker spaniel named Jesse. He moved in with her while she was in college in 1978. She has owned cockers ever since. Elizabeth has worked as a groom in professional stables, trained horses and dogs, volunteered at the zoo, done pet sitting, raised goats, chickens and ducks, had almost every kind of pet there is and still cocker spaniels are her favorite. She now is the proud mama of two SCCR alumni, Reilly and Duffy, living with her incredibly supportive husband Mike, four cats, two horses, a flock of chickens and a various foster dog or two. In addition to the work she does with SCCR she is also volunteers at the Santa Barbara Animal Shelter rabbits and with the cats in the "wild cat room". Melody first got involved with cockers when she decided that she wanted a smaller dog to go with her two Aussies. She visited the shelter and there sat the most beautiful dog she had ever seen. Her name was Molly and she captured Melody's heart. Molly was a 3 year old American cocker spaniel. Melody went back to work but could not stop thinking about Molly. The next day she went back to the shelter to adopt her and to her dismay Molly was gone. Melody was crushed. She keep going back and looking at more dogs but none came close to Molly. About a month later Melody went back to the shelter and there sat her "Molly By Golly" girl. Melody adopted her on the spot. That was over 15 years ago and she has had cockers ever since. Molly has since passed on and now Melody shares her home with several rescued cockers, Sammy, Skippy, and Beau, 2 cats and usually a foster dog. Elizabeth Mazzetti and Melody Acres founded SCCR in July of 2003. It started out when Elizabeth introduced Melody to the petfinder.com website and Melody became an addict. One day she saw yet another cocker in a Los Angeles animal shelter that only had one day before he was to be put down. She could not stand it anymore. She called Elizabeth and asked if she would help place him if Melody would drive to Los Angeles to pick him up. Elizabeth said yes and SCCR was born. Joann Reagan's love of cocker spaniels started many years ago when she adopted her first cocker named Shaver. He was a wonderful boy and gave her immense happiness. Since then she has rescued many other cockers and other breeds as well. Joann has been a volunteer at the Sacramento SPCA for over 10 years. At the SPCA she has taught dog handling classes, mentored new volunteers, fostered many dogs and is one of the volunteers who takes photos of the dogs for their website.
Joann met Elizabeth and Melody when she wanted to rescue a cocker at the Sacramento SPCA. They said yes and the Sacramento branch of SCCR was created.
